Ondanks het eindigen van de Eenjarige Oorlog en de overgave van hun leger, houdt een klein deel van Zeons troepen vast aan de hoop ooit hun onafhankelijkheid te kunnen veroveren. Onder leiding van de fanatieke admiraal Delaz beginnen ze aan operatie "Stardust," terwijl de Aarde nog steeds haar wonden likt... Kou Uraki, een jonge mobile suit test-piloot van de Federatie, heeft de Eenjarige Oorlog niet meegemaakt. Hij maakt pas kennis met de gruwel van de oorlog als de troepen van Zeon toeslaan op de basis waar hij gestationeerd is. Van dan af begint een genadeloze achtervolging door de ruimte die zowel zijn kracht als zijn gebreken zal blootleggen...

Ever wondered what happened after the original series but before the Zeta series? Then, look no further. Despite the somewhat old look of the movie (though I do like it since it's more "real" than the more recent over the top animes), the animation is top notch. The main character isn't anything special but the rival, Gato, is very charismatic. The Gundams here are a mix of good and bad. Although the GP01 is adequate, the GP02 is quite horrendous which is why I'm glad that Gato gets a pretty nifty Zeon mobile armor as a replacement. Personally, I liked this movie more than Char's counterattack (which is widely considered the best Gundam movie).
