Description

"Pancakes and teddy bears and kidnappings, oh my!" by Mark Carson (USA) on Mar 2, 2004

A triumph of the human spirit! A landmark in the history of world literature! More teddy bears and pancakes than would ordinarily be expected in a dozen books! This gripping account of the development of the peculiar relationship between the endlessly cheerful Hinata Asahi and her new next-door neighbor and high school teacher, the endlessly mysterious Shiro Assô, should appeal to those who found Sakura Kinomoto (CCS) a little too serious and moody at times.

Honestly, I'm not quite sure why, but I ended up really liking this one. However, I'm aware that it drives other people to distraction, so I can only issue a qualified endorsement. The art (by Mick Nekoi) is much simpler than the usual super-ornate Clamp style; I found it fit well with the story, but again, it does turn other people off. The developing weirdness in the storyline, though, is very much in the mainline Clamp tradition. It also ends up with an unexpected twist or two, also very much in the Clamp tradition.
