I don't think I need to add a lot of comment on how splendid this anime is, it really is a must buy and any respectful anime collector should have this in her collection of anime.

The DVD comes with a lof of extra there is just one thing I am very disappointed in and that is:

No original version, there's no option to be able to watch it in Japanese.
I myself prefer to watch it in Japanese as I find the language suits much better with it the subtitles in English or Dutch, doesn't really matter although I prefer English subtitles but I won't be sad if the subtitles are in Dutch just as long as I can have the Japanese dubbed version.

DVDs these days aren't cheap, especially the Anime DVDs and thus the features and the language options along with the subtitle options are very important, in my eyes atleast.

So other than no japanese dub it's a very nice DVD to buy.

Anime collector,

D

"`Jaw-dropping¿ just about sums it up." par V. Krätke (Netherlands) le 13 déc. 2003

Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust is a rare example of a film that can thrive on its visual splendor alone. That's not to say there's nothing in there apart from a major banquet of eye candy, but above all, it's the sheer beauty, detail and visual flair that pours from every shot which leaves a lasting impression on the viewer.

Despite a few twists and ambitious elements in the plot that you wouldn¿t find in your average commercial Hollywood feature, the movie tells a straightforward story overall. For most of the movie, we follow both D and the Marcus Brothers as they chase after Meier's carriage and get into all sorts of exciting ghoul-busting situations along the way. That the plot weaves in a few contemplative moments of character development that actually work and never seem to detract from or clash with the film¿s overall pace is testament to Kawajiri¿s directing skill. By the end of the film, you will not only have had your fill of stunning, adventurous sights, but also feel like you¿ve had an interesting glimpse into what makes the main characters tick.

But all of that is overshadowed by the film¿s splendid, lush imagery. From luxurious baroque interiors to moonlit mountain paths and vast deserts, the gothic world that this movie paints is never less than an amazing sight.
The denizens of said world are equally captivating. Kawajiri¿s imagination is working full throttle to bring the viewer a selection of ghouls, vampires and bounty hunters with unexpected powers and cool gimmicks. The film is packed with moments that will make the viewer sit up with a ¿whoah, cool!¿ kind of reaction, whether it¿s a spectacular showdown between the Marcus Brothers and a pack of zombies, or a little touch like the funky spider-shaped mirrors in Carmilla¿s castle. Make no mistake; despite the film¿s gothic atmosphere and a sprinkling of bloody or dramatic moments, it doesn¿t aim to scare the viewer. It aims to amaze, and is a thundering success in that department. The fact that there actually is some intelligent substance to the flamboyant masked ball of this movie serves to balance things out and make for a more rounded, satisfying movie than a straight dazzle-fest would¿ve been.

This DVD edition is actually quite nicely made, with pretty menu screens and a helping of extras in the form of a behind-the-scenes featurette and some trailers, which is a lot better than I had grown to expect from the usually rather skinny, sloppy Dutch Manga Video DVD releases. Some may cry foul at the absence of a Japanese audio track, but the movie was actually originally produced and released with English vocals, and has always been intended as such from the beginning (ergo, the English `dub¿ is in fact the original version). Either way, the English voice acting is very well done and flows naturally throughout the film. All in all, it¿s a decent edition of a dazzling, immersive film that¿s great fun to just watch every now and then to bathe in its rich, marvelously-realised atmosphere.

"A real masterpeace." par Anime4ever (Nederland) le 5 déc. 2003

This is a real masterpeace. You really have too got this one. The cara's are good desined and there clothes(especially D's) give it a extra touch.
I liked the classic music that is played in the action scene's. It gives the action a extra demension.

The only thing I didn't like was that u couldn't chance the English to japanese. Some dialoques are just not the same.

"Crazy...so cool" par Mirai (Netherlands) le 4 déc. 2003

At first I didn't know there was another movie of Vampire Hunter D. I still havn't seen that one (shame on me...) but I'm sure it will have just as much satisfaction wahting it as this one.
I love the cloths and machines plus the creatures look so good!!!

(btw. don't mind my crapy English... I'm working on it ~.^)

"Another masterpiece from Madhouse productions" par hushpuppy (Belgium) le 17 nov. 2003

The first Vampire Hunter D movie was great because of the fine artwork, great great storyline and D himself is such an interesting charcter to see and to follow.

This movie isn't a sequel to that first movie but I would call it another chapter in his saga.

The artwork and animation can't be compared to the first movie. It outclasses it in everyway. The story begins with a young girl being kidnapped and the father and brother hire D and the Marcus Brothers to get her back after a failed rescue attempt. This is the basic plotline for the movie but there are so many interesting twists and develoments that keep you on the edge of your seat the entire time! I won't spoil anything but the ending surely isn't what you would expect and so is the reason why the girl disappears. And we also get a new vision on who D really is and his roots.

Also the humor is a nice touch to it. The parasite on D's hand is a welcome addition to the story. I also like every demon they put in. Everyone one of them is a well worked out character that is kewl to see. My favorite demon was the one who could hide in the shadows. The werewolf is second.

Audio quality and vieo quality are once again superb like it should be. The picture is full of colour with the right contrast everywhere. THe only remark I have about the sound is that it the beginning it seems like the spoken audio is a little quiet but you get used to this. The sounds effects are really good. Like when everytime a vampire cries out of pain or the sound of Meyer flying is simply GOOD!!

Also the extra's are very pleasing this time. The making of is very interesting to see and the commercials for the soundtracks etc. are a nice touch.

This really is a high recommendation for everyone and if you're a newbie to anime buy this one and I'll guarantee you'll be hooked in no time!

Every anime movie and series release should be done like this! A school example of rock solid anime.

"Masterpiece !!!" par Danne Bakker (Netherlands) le 16 nov. 2003

I wasn't feeling quite well when i watched this movie. i though it would be a nice timekiller, but it proved to be much more than that. The art is amazing and the animation is smooth. The story is ok. Vampire Hunter D is hired to find a girl who is kidnapped by a vampire. D is not the only one hired, so he'll have hurry to beat the competition.
This movie doesn't have any weak points and everyone who's into manga should watch it.
