Description

In the future Century, disputes between nations are settled not by war, but by organized tournaments between giant Mobile Fighters, called Gundams. The 13th Gundam Tournament is the most anticipated yet, with every colony eager to unveil its latest Fighter to the world. but something is amiss at this year's competition. Researchers from Neo-Japan, who were working on ways to fuse man and machine for the ultimate fighting edge, inadvertently created the Dark Gundam. Originally built to save the Earth, the Dark Gundam now seeks to destroy it, and uses its DG cells to turn pilots and their Gundams into mindless soldiers in order to bring its evil scheme to fruition. Domon Kasshu, Neo-Japan's top pilot, began the Gundam Tournament as just another contestant, but with things rapidly going from bad to apocalyptic, he'll need to become the greatest hero the Earth has ever seen.

"G Gundam ..... on speed!" par SoundBlaster (Netherlands) le 4 janv. 2006

Well, I've just read the first volume of G Gundam "the manga" (after watching the first 2 volumes of G Gundam "the anime").....

So... comparisons...... a lot ;)
The first few chapters follows a lot of the things that happened in the anime (or is it the other way around?). Only the manga is on a hyper-speed pace! And with that leaving out a few things, adding a few interesting things and combining a few things..... Still catch my drift here?

*A little spoiler coming along:*
Rain is being kidnapped in both the manga and the anime. In the anime it happens on a seperate occasion. In the manga it happens during a fight (one episode of the anime) and so leads up to a new fight (another episode in the anime)!
*End of spoiler*

So.... what's the verdict? I liked this manga alot, though it sometimes happens TOO fast (two frames telling us Shining Gundam defeated this and that Gundam and then on with the new chapter).
I loved the artwork! Again a little comparison with the anime: you get to see some Gundams that didn't appear in the anime -in the beginning at least-. I really like the appearance and re-appearance of a Gundam looking like a farao.... very fascinating!

The backside also gives us a little more (too much maybe? we'll see in another volume) about the Dark Gundam (Devil Gundam in the anime). See the discription above!

Still.... I doubted about giving it either 3 or 4 stars... since there isn't one in between!
Maybe I compare this a little too much with the anime, I don't know. It just seems to happen REALLY fast! The good thing about this is that you keep on in the high-paced action! From fight to fight to flashback to fight etc etc etc!

I still recommend this to any Gundam-nutter! And to everyone else who might be interested in a manga about giant mechs! And.... this manga-series has only three volumes........ BUY and try!
