"Some kind of divine." by V. Kr├Ątke (Netherlands) on Jun 11, 2007

The seventh volume of Kamikaze Kaito Jeanne delivers a spectacular, highly emotional conclusion to this great series. Marron and friends end up in heaven, where Marron will have to come to terms with her feelings and face a final test in front of God and the Devil themselves. The immensity of Marron's task, and the full force of everyone's emotional turmoil is brought out beautifully in these final chapters. It was clear, right off the bat, that Arina Tanemura brought much more to the table with this series than just another entry in the magical girl genre. With the final volume, one can appreciate just how much she has achieved. Kamikaze Kaito Jeanne is special in that it takes a tried-and-tested genre in a whole new direction. To do so, and do it well, requires lots of artistic gusto. It's pulled off beautifully here, making for a memorable, altogether wonderful manga.
There's time for levity as well, as there's a hilarious bonus story starring the Silk character at the end of this volume. It's silly fluff which would've been a nuisance in a lesser series, but it hits all the right notes here, making for a sweet and amusing little extra.
The art is as beautiful and fabulously ornate as ever. The cutesy, wide-eyed faces are something you either love or hate, but none can deny that Tanemura knows how to pack pages with ribbons and flowers like the best of'em. Kaito Jeanne is truly one of the best things on offer in the field of shoujo manga. Few other titles are as gripping, surprising and downright pretty as this. And even fewer titles manage to tell a complete story without dropping the ball so much as once.
