"An excellent release of the groundbreaking series." by Villain (Finland) on Sep 27, 2006

Neon Genesis Evangelion. The best anime-series ever created. Or a piece of crap pretending to be art. No other anime-title raises such strongly contrasting opinions within the fanbase. You may love it, you may hate it - but regardless of your opinion, Evangelion needs to be seen by every fan of anime.

Evangelion is basically a psychological study disguised as a mecha action-series. It tells about some deeply disturbed characters who try to cope with the world around them and who often fail to find happiness or satisfaction. Evangelion is about miscommunication, inability to express feelings and the difficulty of relating to other people. But it also tells us about the importance of those around us, the bonds that we share.

The actual storyline is full of religious symbolism and philosophical viewpoints, but the heart and core of Evangelion are its characters: the flawed, annoying individuals who seem to make wrong decisions time and again. It is heavy to watch them struggle, but it is also most rewarding in numerous ways.

Whereas the previous DVD-edition by ADV was far from perfect, the Platinum edition is excellent and does justice for the series. Sharp picture, 5.1 sounds, better subtitles and great extras on every DVD, the Platinum edition is every Eva-fans dream come true. The thinpak-collection is stripped of the extras, so I recommend every serious fan to get these single discs (and the sturdy box that comes with this first volume) or to wait for the 10th Anniversary boxset.

In short: a must have.

"goede serie" by buggie (Netherlands) on Aug 18, 2006

"Goede start" by EnkiDante (Belgi├ź) on May 12, 2006
