"You want fun?" by Evander (Nederland) on Jul 4, 2004

I met the anime series a few weeks ago at a Dutch anime festival and I was sold the very moment I laid eyes on the screen.
The very next day I bought the first three parts of the Manga series and it was hilarious until the end of the book.

This part is the beginning of Azumas hilarious series.
Here you meet the girls; Tomo, Yomi, Sakaki, Chioy-chan and Osaka. And you follow them trough there first year of high school. You need to read it to believe it but it is really funny to see a few girls on school.
And the best this is: No Giant Robots! ^_^

Please buy this manga and love it. You wont regret it!

"The answer to all life's problems" by YourMessageHere (UK) on Feb 28, 2004

What do you do when things are getting you down? When everything is just too much for you and you need to get away from it all, where do you turn?

To Azumanga Daioh.

OK, it's not actually an answer to all life's problems, but it is a most effective temporary escape. I challenge anyone to start into this book with a bad mood and not finish up smiling. The core of the thing is a series of 4-panel cartoons detailing the friendship of a disparate group of high-school girls, followed all through their 3 years of high school, which on the face of it sounds all very humdrum and not terribly enthralling or worthy of getting excited about. However, the brilliance of Azumanga Daioh is in the superbly-realised characters and the way they interact with one another. The comic art is simply drawn but immaculate throughout.

Also there is a feeling running all the way through Azumanga Daioh that Everything Is All Right. Certainly, for me, this is as near to an antidote to all the horrors of my own school life as anything has ever come, and has an oddly calming effect on me, working as a kind of Mood Elixir. I heartily recommend it to anyone who ever envied a fictional schoolgirl or schoolboy character their idyllic school days. And everyone else as well.
