"Different, but great!!!" by SoundBlaster (Netherlands) on Jan 5, 2006

I've finished watching the first box of G Gundam.

This series is completly different from the other Gundam series, since this is more based on a story in one episode (with a detail going through all them).

It's basically about Domon who tries to seek the Devil Gundam. To achieve this he goes through numerous G Fights.
And this is were the cool thing is all about! In each episode you get to see a new Gundam! Some come back later on aswell, like the Maxter Gundam and the Gundam Rose.

Each episode plays in a new "Neo-country" and thus the Gundams representing these countries has something that makes it look like it's from that country. For example the Maxter Gundam is from neo-America. It's a Gundam that looks like a crossbreed between a football-player and a boxer. The Gundam Rose resembles Napoleon.... you can guess which country this Gundam belongs to, non? If we do not count the Shining Gundam from Domon and the few Gundams that are being wasted in a few seconds, there are 12 Gundam-characters that come in this volume (so.... yes.... with the Shining Gundam it's 13..... doh!)

As all the Gundams look from a certain country, it's easy to think how the episodes-settings look like..... In one episode you see the Eifel-tower (that's bended over.... looks comical :P), in another one you see the Statue of Liberty, and then another one with the Chinese Wall, etc, etc, etc.

This is also a nice bridge to talk about the extra's.... On each disc yuo have the trailers and credits, but there are also G-Files....
These G-Files are an interview (written down) with the director of the show. The cool part is, that the director tells us where he did find the settings of various episodes. As he stated, it's too expensive to travel to the countries that are visited in the series. So.... they use....... movies!!!! The director tells us which movie was the reference for which landscape in an episode! This is kinda cool to know.

Lastly.... the artwork for the box and the sleeves and such... The artwork that's used on the box are in fact the sleeves of the first and third disc! I think that the artwork look VERY cool! On the backsleeves of each disc there is your basic info on the disc and some screenshots. There are inlays in each of the three discs. The first inlay is about the Shining Gundam and it's pilot, the second about the Maxter Gundam and it's pilot and the third disc is about the Dragon Gundam and it's pilot.

So..... there you have the review of the first box...... The series is great and doesn't really feel like your average Gundam show. That is also it's strong point!

If you're looking for an anime that has mecha's, martial arts and sci-fi.... this is YOUR show! Just picture the Gundams doing martial arts and stuff... just GREAT!!!!

Highly recomended!!!!!!
