"The final piece de resistance .. (?!)" by Zeiroid (Netherlands) on Nov 7, 2003
The last volume of the Big O anime.. I got this today in the mailbox and I couldn't wait to see it, although I knew for certain that it would end without too many leads on the main story.
Again, the animation is splendid and the dvd extra's are a bit lame but I didn't care about that anyway ..
All the episodes on this disc are worthwhile; Starting with
a nice and tender Christmas-inspired episode, followed up by the return of the mighty arch-nemesis Schwarzwald show-casing heavy action and finally the last episode, lifting a veil of the past of Roger. Especially the last scene where you see Roger sitting in the Big O with a wounded arm and Dorothy next to him helping him out with the controls, ready for the attack of three megadeuses, is pure heartbreaking heroism.
However, if this was really the last episode I would've probably killed the entire staff behind this production. it couldn't have been more of an open ending than for instance the RG Veda movie released in the UK. Luckily I noticed that The Big O II is almost available here. Still, the Big O is definitely something to go after .. It is something different than other mecha anime. And with characters like Dorothy, Roger and Angel nothing can go wrong. Subtle and stylish at the same time, this is one of my faves.
