"A must-have for every Transformers fan." by Happy Crash (Netherlands) on Jun 27, 2004

This movie practically *defines* the thoughts I and a lot of people of my generation have of our childhood. I must have seen this masterpiece about 40 times already. From the amazing battle between our hero optimus prime and the evil megatron to the incredible unexpected ending, this animated movie drags you through one action packed moment after the other. Featuring a deep (and at times truly emotional!) storyline, incredible animation, a hardrock soundtrack that is set to get you goosebumps and a great cast of voice actors*.

I own two copies of TF:TM. A Canadian VHS release I bought in Canada and this Rhino Collector's DVD. I just had to get it now that I have a DVD-player.

Details about this release
Encoding: Region 1 (U.S. and Canada only. Make sure your DVD player can play Region 1 DVDs)
Format: Colour, 4:3, 5.1 surround
Languages: English only
Subtitles: None
Rated: PG.
Running time: 86 minutes
DVD Features:
- Animated chapter breaks
- Interview with composer Vince DiCola
- Story Boards

The DVD starts out with the obligatory FBI-warning, which as a funny sidenote is as short as they could make it and actually mocks the FBI. The animated menu is simple and easy to use, no flashy gimmicks here. You can play the whole movie, jump to a specific scene or go to the extra features.

Rhino took the time to completely remaster the original release, resulting in a vastly superior soundtrack and higher contrast animation**. Some people are lyrical about the redone colours, but in my opinion as a graphic design artist, the contrast seems too high at times, drowning out details that are there in the VHS release.

The storyboards and interview are just that. A set of storyboards (really nice addition!) and an interview with the scorewriter. But still, for a movie coming from the era where "extras" were red-shirted away team members that would never survive the end of an episode, everything they added can be considered a bonus!

I would have given it 5 stars, but since the colours are a little overdone and there are no subtitles, I'm going for 4. Still, one of the best 80s cartoons and this DVD-release is definitely worth every penny!! A must-have for every Transformers fan.

* Buy a really big subwoofer, set it to maximum volume and watch everything in your room tremble and shake when Unicron starts to talk; in my opinion Orson Welles does the most impressive bad-guy voice *ever*.

** a really nice touch is that they actually coloured the massive amount of sharkticons as they crawl up against the wall of the quintesson pit. A scene the animators apparently "missed" in the original release.

"The best DVD-version yet!!!!!" by SoundBlaster (Netherlands) on Mar 2, 2004

This has got to be in your collection if you are a Transformers-fan (or if you just like the movie....)!!!!!!!!!!

I have the Maverick dvd-version aswell, but that one just pales in comparison with this masterpiece. The colors on this one are so much brighter and the picture quality is so much better. The other "big" difference between these 2 versions is that the Maverick (region 2) version has a StarWars-like textscroll in the beginning of the movie, this one doesn't.

There are 2 extra's on this dvd (the backside says 3....but animated chapter breaks seem to be standard now). One is an interview with the scorewriter, the other one is a piece I really was longing for: Storyboard-pictures!!!

-If you don't own the movie yet: buy it!
-If you own the R2 Maverick version: get this one (too), it's so much better (if not only for the storyboard extra).
-If you've bought that cheap labeless dvd which you can buy at Dutch toystores: use that one as cupholder and grab this dvd! (the quality of the before mentioned is the worst version I've ever seen of a cartoon! Macroblocks everywhere)

I'm glad a friend of mine told me to get the Rhino-version of one of my favorite movies aswell. It's the best yet!!!

"must have" by Simon (Netherlands) on Jan 7, 2004

The movie explains some unsolver misteries as: why Optimus and Megetron suddenly disappear and why Hotrod became Rodimus Prime and how Galvatron was born
This movie is a absolute must have for every Trasnsformer fan.

"A classic!" by hushpuppy (Belgium) on Nov 17, 2003

Tranformers the movie is a Transformers masterpiece. The artwork is outstanding and the plot and story are simply magnificant!

The movie introduces several of my favorite Transformers like Ultra Magnus, Hot Rod and Galvatron. Unforunately some had to go.... Like my favorite TF hero optimus prime... I remember watching this movie when I was young I simply cried!!! How could they let a noble good hearted leader die?!

He... It's a good thing they let him came back at the end of the 3rd season or else... But back to the movie of course...

I also liked that Hot Rod became the new Prime. Don't get me wrong ultra Magnus has the capabilities but he's a soldier in the fullest meaning of the word and it shows if you ask me. Also the introduction of Wreck-Gar is quite amusing with his unique way of talking.

I also love the music! The song The Touch is simply the best song they could've picked for the theme song and of Optimus' last fight. Same goes for Hot Rod's theme Dare.

I really enjoyed every minute of this movie and what better way to live on then the DVD format? So what are you waiting for? You should've filled in that orderform by now!!!

"Simply a MUST HAVE for Transformer fans" by Micha Muscus (Netherlands) on Nov 10, 2003

This movie explains why Optimus Prime and Megatron were gone in the new serie (season 3). Because I never saw the movie, I was left wondering what happened to all our beloved Transformers from season 1 and 2. Until I saw this great movie! See the enormous Unicron in action and see the final battle between Optimus Prime and Megatron.
