Winner of five Eisner and Harvey Awards, KINGDOM COME is the best-selling graphic novel from acclaimed writer Mark Waid and superstar painter Alex Ross. This new 20th Anniversary edition features sketch material and more that provides insight into this rich world. Set in the not-so-distant future, the DC Universe is spinning inexorably out of control. The new generation of heroes has lost their moral compass, becoming as reckless and violent as the villains they fight. The previous regime of heroes-the Justice League-returns under the most dire of circumstances, which sets up a battle of the old guard against these uncompromising protectors in a battle that will define what heroism truly is. Collects KINGDOM COME #1-4.

A work of art! - 09 Jun, 2016
By Jes_369 (Belgium)
What can I say about Kingdom Come other than that it's a work of art. A work of art when it comes to the writing and the artwork. I'm going to start collecting work from Mark Waid and Alex Ross. I already have some of their work on my wishlist: JLA Tower of Babel, Justice, Marvels etc. I love the concept of famous superheroes in a distant future, when they're much older than they are in the stories you usually read. The heroes of old are retired or some of them are still at work, like the Flash who protects his city like a gale force no one sees. He is everywhere at once. Hawkman watches over the Pacific Northwest. Green Lantern watches over the Earth in his Emerald City looking out for extraterrestrial threats. Aquaman stays in his underwater kingdom. Wonderwoman tries to get Superman back into the world. Superman has become a hermit. After losing all his loved ones, he has no more interest in the world. He has become bitter. As for Batman, Batman has his city under control. Superman and Batman were never more apart from each other. I won't spoil too much of the story. I'll just leave you with a short summary and one of my favorite moments of the book. As I said before, the heroes of old are retired. Most of them are replaced by their children and grandchildren. These descendants don't have the moral code their ancestors had, they don't fight for the right, they fight simply to fight, leaving destruction and casualties in their wake. Actually I'll leave you with two of my favorite moments of the book. The first is when Superman and Batman get in a heated discussion and when Batman turns his back and keeps on talking, he suddenly turns to see Superman dissapeared and he says "So that's what that feels like". And the second is at the very end of the story. Superman, Wonder Woman and Batman meet up and have a little get together which ends very heartwarming. I won't spoil it, you'll have to find out for yourself.
