"It's all about trolls " door rinci (België) op 12 aug. 2015

I came late to the LCG and there were already many expansions available. I bought several of the LOTR sets, but this was the first Saga expansion I picked up.
The expansion has three scenarios, but I've been concentrating on the first one, We Must Away, Ere Break of Day. This scenario deals with the dwarf/hobbit expedition meeting the three trolls (Bert, Tom, and William). I'm also using one of the suggested 'historical' decks.

My first playthrough was disastrous. I don't read the quest cards in advance and let them surprise me. Boy, did they.
The first quest card was easy. One weak enemy, which my 4 heroes overwhelmed, and the first stage was in the bank in 2 turns.
The second quest card adds the three trolls and the troll cave to the staging area. All of a sudden, I had 11 threat to overcome and only 6 will to do it. Oops. In a few turns I had been sacked and eaten as my threat level skyrocketed.

I reset and decided on a different approach. This time, I'd build up my allies to prepare for the big threat boost and let the 1st stage progress happen slowly.

This worked much better. When I added the trolls I had enough will to overcome their threat, an event to ready my exhausted characters, and enough combat power to kill the weakest (and only combat-active) troll. I did the same thing with the other two trolls and won the scenario.

The bad part of this strategy was that I killed the trolls before the troll key came out. So I won but I did not get the treasure trove with all the goodies. I'd like these items to carry forward into the other scenarios, so I reset to try again.
