Description

Just a stone's throw from London lies the manor house of the illustrious Phantomhive earldom and its master, one Ciel Phantomhive. Earl Phantomhive is a giant in the world of commerce, Queen Victoria's faithfull servant...and a slip of a twelve-year-old boy. Fortunately his loyal butler, Sebastian, is ever at his side, ready to carry out the young master's wishes. And wheter Sebastian is called to save a dinner party gone awry or probe the dark secrets of London's underbelly, there apparently is nothing Sebastian cannot do. In fact, one might even say Sebastian is too good to be true..or at least, too good to be human...

"Good series about a kid and his butler solving murder cases." by Dilan (Belgium) on Aug 25, 2022

Black Butler is about a kid, named Ciel, who is the head of his family's mansion. Together with his demon Butler Sebastian, they solve mysterious murder cases.

I'd rate this manga 5/5 but I personally dislike how much text there is. I'd say there is a lot more text in this than your average manga, my eyes are tired after one volume. Sometimes the fighting scenes aren't very well drawn because it's hard to see what exactly is happening; you see movement but can't tell what exactly is going on.

I'd say the comedy is more a slapstick comedy, not a huge fan of it (I haven't laughed once) but I really like the detective style in this story mixed with supernatural. I recommend this manga if you liked the anime and if you like mystery and supernatural.

"Geweldige serie!" by Bonamana (Nederland) on Dec 12, 2013

Geweldig start volume! Zeker waard om te kopen.

"Super manga!" by Brenda van der Heide (Netherlands) on Jun 28, 2013

"A must read!" by Baka (Netherlands) on Dec 8, 2012

Great manga, great story, great art!

"Love it!" by PurelyLove (Denmark) on Nov 12, 2012

Kuroshitsuji (or Black Butler) is simply a manga I utterly adore! Its got comedy, action, the occasional near death situations (nothing Sebastian can't handle) and an amazing art style. There is though one thing to note - the manga is very different from the anime. This is mainly because it's a rather young manga with (currently) 76 chapters, and the second season is a spinoff of season 1 (so if you're wanting to read Black Butler because of Alois and Claude, then I'm sorry but they aren't in there... But there is that incident with zombies (>w

"A good gothic manga" by frank van zanten (Nederland) on Sep 17, 2012

Before reading the manga i watched the anime and my first thoughts were that it would be a stupid goth manga but its more than that. Good action, great storylines and the most fun characters i have seen in a while

"Nice" by Ilze Snoerwang (Netherlands) on Aug 18, 2012

I borrowed this volume from a friend of mine and I must say that it was nice. The art is clean and nice to the eye, but the story wasn't able to captivate me. Oh well, perhaps I'm too demanding.

"Geweldig!" by Anne Kamsteeg (Nederland) on Aug 5, 2012

"Very good shounen" by Tara Sreeram (Netherlands) on Jul 18, 2011

Upon first glance this manga seems quite whimsical with blundering servants erverywhere. But don't let that mislead you; once you notice Sebastian's mysterious glance, you'll know that there's a lot more going on...

The story is good and intruiging enough to keep you satisfied. Be warned though: The anime was broadcast with the manga still running, so don't be surprised if the story takes a completely different direction.

As for the art, that could be called more refined and elegant than a lot of other shounen manga I've read so far.

"kuro" by Sarah (Netherlands) on Mar 11, 2011

"Awesome!" by Madoka (Nederland) on Mar 1, 2011

"Geweldige start!" by Dauwdrupje (Belgium) on Nov 9, 2010

"Awesome style!" by sakura438 (Belgium) on Aug 3, 2010

"Awesome!" by Annemarie de Boer (Netherlands) on May 20, 2010

This is my favourite manga! The art is awesome, the story is awesome and the characters are awesome! I like it a lot! :D

"Great Story and Artwork" by Letty van den Berg (Netherlands) on Apr 1, 2010

The storyline differs from the anime, and is, in my opinion, better. A very interesting story, and even though one of the main characters is a twelve year old boy, it's no kid's manga.

"Eindelijk mijn eigen butler" by Cycloop (België) on Mar 30, 2010

"Don't be fooled" by Phoebe (Netherlands) on Mar 23, 2010

Though when looking at the art this may look like a pretty light manga, the themes are dark. Some of the scenes are definitely not for the faint of hearts.
However, if you like your manga a bit darker you definitely have to try this. Add some beautiful Victorian outfits, a demonic butler and you have an amazing series.
