I thought that when I entered high school, my days of believing in aliens, time travelers and ESPers were going to be over. That is until she introduced herself. Claiming to be interested in only aliens, time travelers, and ESPers, Haruhi Suzumiya was the strangest girl I've met in a long time... Before I knew what's going on, I've been dragged into her weird club, and it looks like I'm not the only one who has been drafted into this 'SOS Brigade' of hers, because there are three other students who don't seem to be so ordinary themselves. Either way we've all found ourselves caught up in Haruhi's quest to search for all things extraordinary. And what's this I hear about us making a movie?? 100 minutes

Een zeer goede box! De box is erg mooi, elke kant is in full color en hij sluit met behulp van magneten. Zodra je de box open doet heb je nog eens 5 full color plaatjes en twee gele lintjes steken eruit. Die vragen er gewoon om aan getrokken te worden!! Als je aan de bovenste trekt komt de DVD eruit met een prachtige CG-cover met Haruhi erop! De DVD bevat 4 episodes (die in chronologische volgorde staan) De eerste episode is episode 00, The Adventures of Mikuru Ashina. Als je deze episode ziet denk je dat deze anime een onwijs slecht special effects team om ze zo maar even te noemen heeft, want zelfs amateurs kunnen beter. Later blijkt dit gewoon een projectje van de SOS te zijn. De DVD heeft leuke extra's reclames van de anime, "Making of" van de reclame. Een textless opening en ending van episode 00 Verschillende previews die ook op DVD zijn te verkrijgen en een aantal afleveringen van de ASOS brigade (een hyper-active cosplayer XD Wel erg leuk om naar te kijken) Het menu is erg leuk, audio kun je instellen in Japans en Engels. Natuurlijk ging ik voor Japans maar de subtitles zijn nogal... meh... Ze zijn goed vertaald lopen op tijd. Maar ze nemen een kwart van het scherm is. Fansubs hebben dit beter gedaan, helaas! Die subs kunnen een heel stuk beter visueel gezien! Genoeg over de DVD, de extra's! Als je verder aan het lintje trekt komt er, het spijt me, een in mijn ogen nogal lelijke kartonnen doosje uitzetten, Er staat niks op hij is grijs/wit en is er duidelijk om de DVD op zijn plaats te houden. Maar het doosje kan open, helaas ging dit de eerste keer niet zo soepel, waar door hij scheurde. In het doosje zit Haruhi's haarlint die geweldig is voor cosplay!! Vooral als je nogal moeite hebt met het binden van het lintje, deze headband heeft namelijk aan elke kant twee aparte lintjes die in een strik kan knopen and voila ready for cosplay! Wat nog meer in de doos ziet is een pencilboard, aan de ene kant saat Kyon die Haruhi in zijn armen heeft en Yuki en Mikuru in haar maid outfit staan erachter op de andere kant staat de "promo poster" van Episode 00 met Haruhi op een regisseurs stoel en Kyon met zijn camera. Het laaste extratje is de CD, die je eruit krijgt door aan het onderste lintje te trekken, Hare Hare Yukai single met de Japanse en de Engelse text in het boekje en een tweede nummer: Welcome UNKNOWN. Beide mooie nummers alleen het is elke keer een gevecht om de CD uit zijn "bakje" te krijgen. Ik heb een mes gepakt en pas na een halfuur en hulp van 2 andere mensen kreeg ik hem er uit! Het doosje is namelijk even groot als de hoes en als het doosje omdraaid blijft de CD gewoon zitten. Dat is dus een minpunt Overall: Een erg goede en mooie box leuke extras maar de afmetingen van het doosje waar de CD in zit mogen groter zodat je er niet als een seriemoordenaar hoeft uit te zien als naar de CD wilt luisteren. Ook zou het deprimerende grijze doos wat meer kleur mogen! Voor fans een must have!! ~Laila-chan~

Many things have already been said about the Haruhi Suzumiya anime which I'm not going to repeat. For those that who have been living under a rock for whatever reason: in short the anime is a typical high school story with a twist. No one is who they seem to be at first and Kyon, who narrates the story, lands right smack in the middle of it all. You can read more about the anime in other places. What you're interested in of course is the quality of this special edition box and the DVD. And let me say it is very good. The box itself is nicely finished and feels quite sturdy. The only thing you'll have to be careful about though is that everything fits quite snugly in it; close to being too tight to actually get your stuff back in even. There are plenty of extras in the box, such as a CD, a cosplay hair ribbon and even an iron on picture. Details like these just give that little bit of extra "want"-factor to the box. Let's not forget the DVD itself. I honestly have to say this is one of the few English dubs which are enjoyable without regret. It is very well done and the English cast have audibly done their best on it. Setting aside some volume differences between the characters the voices seem to fit them well. For instance fans of a certain overlord from the game "Makai Kingdom" will welcome back his cynical tone of voice; though it is somewhat toned down this time for seemingly there is a different "overlord" in town. The presentation and the menus seem a little bland at first but it clears up the navigation a lot. And that's a good thing because otherwise you'd lose your way within the long list of extras that are on the disc: trailers, TV commercials, behind the scenes footage and the adventures of the ASOS Brigade just to name a few. You'll be busy for a while with those, after you've watched the anime episodes a few times. In conclusion this is quite a nice package. The attention and thought that went into this and the production of the English dub really shine. Despite the steep price of "merely a DVD" the extras that come with it will put a smile upon the face of any fan of the series. A highly recommended "buy" for all the fans of Haruhi Suzumiya, who not only want lots of goodies but also want a shiny box to keep all their DVDs in.
