//Het online spel "The World" heeft een grote schare trouwe spelers verspreid over de hele wereld die uren en soms zelfs dagen aan een stuk doospelen. Een vreemde gebeurtenis brengt echter chaos in deze door regels geregeerde wereld: een personage met de naam Tsukasa kan niet meer uitloggen en blijkt over vreemde krachten te beschikken, die al snel het normale verloop van het spel verstoren. Sommige spelers zijn geintrigeerd door dit personnage dat dingen kan waar zij zelfs niet van durven dromen, en proberen hem te helpen. In hun zoektocht naar antwoorden ontdekken ze dat "The World" een aantal onverklaarde mysteries herbergt en dat Tsukasa's vreemde gedrag wel eens iets te maken zou kunnen hebben met een legendarisch voorwerp: de Sleutel van de Schemering...//

Episode 01 - Rollenspel
Tsukasa ontwaakt totaal gedesoriënteerd in The World. Een aantal andere spelers, waaronder Mimiru en Bear, proberen vriendschap te sluiten, maar hij houdt hen op afstand en vraagt om met rust gelaten te worden. Blijkbaar kan Tsukasa het spel niet meer verlaten...
Episode 02 - Beschermengel
Tsukasa, beschermd door het vreemde monster dat Ginkan verwondde, wordt achterna gezeten door de Rode Ridders. Het personage met het kattenhoofd leidt hem naar een vreemde plaats, waar een vrouwenstem hem zegt contact op te nemen met Mimiru...
Episode 03 - Folklore
Mimiru en Bear zijn geïntrigeerd door Tsukasa's situatie en besluiten hem te helpen door te onderzoeken waarom hij niet meer kan uitloggen. Het lijkt er op dat Tsukasa zich in het hart bevindt van een hele reeks gebeurtenissen die "The World" op haar grondvesten doen daveren en die te maken hebben met een mysterieus voorwerp genaamd de Sleutel van de Schemering...
Episode 04 - Gezocht
Subaru meldt Bear dat Tsukasa in de laatste 10 dagen niet meer uitgelogd is uit The World, en Mimiru maakt zich meer en meer zorgen over deze mysterieuze speler. Bear is op onderzoek gegaan en denkt ontdekt te hebben wie Tsukasa in het echte leven is...

Ondanks dat ik de rest van de .hack series niet ken en het verhaal langzaam op gang kwam, ben ik er toch in gerold. Vanaf de eerste aflevering had ik al het gevoel dat dit een goed verhaal kon gaan worden. Het was idd een meeslapend verhaal waarbij je toch dingen in moet vullen. Het is niet de beste anime die ik heb gezien maar zeker een aanrader.

Krätke already said it, in the beginning it's kinda boring, but just keep watching, cause you'll get sucked into the story before you know it :D I understand now why this series is so popular and if you watch it, you will too ;)

The whole .hack saga is one of those multi-media projects. It's not just a standalone anime; there's also a handful of comics and Playstation games out there, whose plot threads all somehow connect. That's all very well, but how does this series measure up when taken at face value? Well, my first impression is that this could be quite an interesting series, but it takes a while to get into it. .hack//Sign takes place inside a sprawling on-line game world (know as 'The World', natch). Something like a far more advanced version of online RPG's à la World of Warcraft, except with an anime look. The problem is, the series doesn't go out of its way to explain this to the viewer. Instead, they throw you headlong into 'The World', where bizarre things have started to happen. Now, I don't play these kinds of on-line RPG's, but I know enough about videogames to get the gist of what is going on. I get that the characters we see on-screen are merely players' avatars, what they mean when they talks about service announcements on message baords, and that when they seemingly vanish or teleport around, the player in the 'real' world has probably switched off their PC. Someone who is entirely unfamiliar with on-line games, however, will be completely stumped by what goes on in these first few episodes. We hardly see the 'real' world throughout these episodes. For some, .hack//Sign could end up as a very jarring experience, full of seemingly incomprehensible details. I'm also a bit worried that viewers won't get the full story unless they also shell out for the accompanying games, CD's and whatnot, which would be extremely frustrating. Because once you get over .hack//Sign's confusing first impression, it gets fairly engrossing. The game's world is beautifully realised, and features superb character designs by Yoshiyuki Sadamoto. The unusual music also has its charms, once you get over the really obtrusive over-use of some songs in the first episode. The story concerns an enigmatic and highly standoffish player called Tsukasa, who unwittingly seems to cause strange quirks in The World. A group of players who comes into contact with him tries to probe into this mystery, but Tsukasa may be more dangerous than they, or he himself, realise. Series writes Kazunori Ito can be counted on for some suspenseful and thought-provoking plots. I'm curious to see where this series is heading, but the concerns voiced above mean I'm not quite won over yet. It could really go either way, and it will put off some viewers right from the get-go, so I can only cautiously recommend .hack//Sign so far.

Well, I watched this volume, containing the first four volume's, but the show didn't feel right to me. It's kinda boring, the only thing I liked so far are the ..sort of cows. They're the only things that brought me joy in this series so far. But I'll keep checking it, probably gonna buy the rest anyways to make my collection complete. The art is great btw, the story's really nice to, although I've not got to far. But it's how the plot rolls that just not touched me.

Al vanaf de eerste shot wilde ik de serie helamal afkijken. Heel meeslepend en goed opgebouwd. Doordat je veel zelf mag uitpuzzelen is het misschien moeilijk om je aandacht erbij te houden als je ervan houd precies te weten wat er aan de hand is. Naast de goed kwaliteit van de beelden is de muziek prachtig en meeslepend. Een goed begin van een hele goede serie!

Dit is echt een leuke serie met leuke personages en een leuke verhaallijn.Het verhaal komt een beetje langzaam op gang, maar na een paar afleveringen zit je er helemaal in. Echt een aanrader.

Actully this was my first anime i ever watched. I liked it very much. Starts a little weird but when you get into it the anime explains itself. It has a great plot. Not going to tell you anything. You have to see it for yourself. If you love some mystry you need to watch the .hack//series.

It's just so cool, not to much action (that's why I gave it four stars instead of five) but the story is just great. The DVD's (I bought volume 2 to) are nicely done with four chapters, three languages (French, English and Dutch) and three spoken languages to choose from (Japanse, English and French). The extra´s are okay: a presentation of The World, some info about the stuff, trailer of the video game and two interviews. Just buy this if you like the storu of .hack. It's great.

De .Hack//Sign anime is een zeer leuke anime, die weliswaar wat langzaam op gang komt, maar wel een perfect verhaal heeft, met prachtige muziek, als het aan mij ligt, is deze dvd een MUST BUY!
