"Don't hesitate, get him while you still can!" by x0NightHawk0x (Netherlands) on Feb 12, 2014

Since the introduction of the More Then Meets The Eye ongoing comic from the IDW series (as well as Robots in Disguise), we are now seeing more and more newer figures of generally obscure characters no one really knows about unless they read the original Marvel comics. Whirl is one of these characters that got more attention in the comic and was granted a new figure...a very nostalgic figure that is. At first glance Whirl is very comparable to his G1 predecessor, both in robot mode and vehicle mode you can see the clear resemblance of the figure, but improved. One particular thing that they added from his recent incarnation in the IDW comics are his chicken legs...and while I am not personally a fan of them, I do think they look rather well on him. Starting off in Robot mode (as he is packaged as such) Whirl is quite the pose-able figure as one would expect from the Generations line these days though there is one step missing from his instruction sheet. You can push the balljoin shoulders into the body giving him a more...natural look, rather then arms sticking out on...well...sticks. It's a minor thing but it will make the figure look better. His tweezer/claw like 'hands' are on linked ratchets, so moving one part of the 'hand' will automatically move the other part as well...but not that there is much pose-ability with such. In his vehicle mode Whirl is a helicopter that somewhat resembles an Apache. It feels solid and is rather nicely compact with no obvious robot bits poking out somewhere. A neat, though unneeded, feature is that you can open his cockpit, glancing inside you might think there's a pilot in it but it's actually a bit of a malformed control stick actually.

Whirl comes loaded with weapons that can be clipped onto him in either robot of vehicle mode, though I will admit that they feel a bit awkward and misplaced. The peghole in the nose of the cockpit isn't deep enough to properly display the machine gun, since the one peg that does fit normal makes it point out too far in my opinion. It also has a severe case of sticking out under, rendering the actual landing gear of the helicopter to look like a design flaw while the helicopter rests on it's weaponry. And of course there is the stickersheet...I personally loath them, mostly cause I never seem to get the stickers to get on nice and aligned correctly, not to mention stickers tend to wear off after time. They could have easily put decals on him themselves but they simply didn't. Still, these are just minor nitpicks from an otherwise great figure that I certainly do not regret buying. Being part of the original Wreckers team, Whirl stands great with his fellow teammates that have been released such as Springer and Sandstorm. He is quite the musthave in and TF collection.
